Our next club meeting and the last of 2024 shall be on Wednesday 11th December 2024 – When we welcome local artist Bruce Mulcahy who will be demonstrating using the medium of Gouache a “Snowy Scene”.
Bruce born in West Yorkshire, became keen on painting at an early age eventually studying for a degree in Fine Art at Newcastle University. It was whilst at Newcastle that he began to paint landscapes and seascapes on the spot (using mainly oil, gouache or acrylic) a practice he still continues. Working outdoors has practical difficulties, of course, – not least those caused by the weather – but he tries to cope with those as well as he can, in order to have the chance to react directly to the colours, light and textures of the subject.
Bruce has exhibited in many galleries across the country including Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Leeds City Art Gallery and, on an ongoing basis, Staithes Gallery. As well as his own commissions Bruce enjoys travelling to Art groups to provide demonstrations and workshops. You may have spotted Bruce in recent years at Patchings Art Festival.
